Moving Your Site - Zero Downtime

Eventually, if your web site is on the web for long enough, you will decide to move your site to a different web hosting provider either because your current provider lets you down or because your site has outgrown their service.

Provided that you have your own domain name you will not need to have your site offline for even a second if you transfer your site by following the appropriate steps in the right order. The only thing that may make your visitors aware of the move is that you may want to disable their ability to post comments etc. to your site at its old location during the period that the move is taking place (if you don’t then those comments may be lost).
