Unusable Blog Pages

I just came across an absolutely horrible blog. I don’t know exactly what wwas on the page because I gave up on waiting for the page to load after waiting several minutes. I had scrolled down around four or five times while waiting and the scrollbar was still nearly at the very top.

Obviously the owner of the blog had inserted the entire content of each page for their blog in such a way that it would appear in its entirety in each page that referenced it rather than just displaying an introductory paragraph or two and then using the <!--more--> tag to provide a link to a separate page to display the entire article like this:

Now I don’t often use that tag on this blog but then most of the blog entries I put here are simply one or two paragraph introductions to articles that I have at felgall.com rather than being entire articles in themselves. Where I do have complete articles here on the blog (such as this one) I use the <!--more--> tag to split the article so that those pages displaying multiple blog entries just display an introduction with a link to bring up the rest of the article.

By doing this I ensure that all of the pages in the blog load reasonable quickly since those pages displaying multiple entries only have a paragraph or two for each entry which is then followed by a link that those who want to read the entire article can follow. This applies whether the article is one written specifically for the blog as this one is or where the blog entry merely serves as an introduction to an actual separate article.

So what was the blog about that led to my writing this entry? Well it had something to do with internet marketing but I don’t know exactly what as I never actually got to see the page properly. By omitting one simple tag that can be entered y a click on the appropriate entry in the blog entry toolbar the author of that blog lost me and presumably many others as potential repeat visitors to their blog.
