Superscripts and Subscripts

Chemical formulae use subscripts eg H2O. Mathematical formulae use superscripts eg X2. and many other types of writing also use them for a variety of purposes and so it is convenient that XHTML has elements to handle them (but then given that HTML originated in Unuversities where formulae of various types are common you’d expect that wouldn’t you).
