When you can’t connect to another computer on your local network or the internet then there are a number of possible causes. The first step is to work out where the problem is and to do that we need to use commands that will test the network connection and tell us a bit more about what is and isn’t happening.
I have been programming computers since the late 1970s, performing a wide variety of different computer programming jobs, and using a large range of different languages - mostly writing accounting and financial systems for mainframe computers. Since the market for mainframe computer skills moved offshore I have been writing about computers, teaching computer courses in the classroom, and also doing accounting work.
