Where the theme defines how your WordPress site looks, the plugins you install will define how it functions. By installing appropriate plugins you can use a WordPress site for many purposes other than as a blog. For example I have set one up on my javascriptexample.net site to use as the forum where the rest of the site does not use WordPress.
I have been programming computers since the late 1970s, performing a wide variety of different computer programming jobs, and using a large range of different languages - mostly writing accounting and financial systems for mainframe computers. Since the market for mainframe computer skills moved offshore I have been writing about computers, teaching computer courses in the classroom, and also doing accounting work.
