Networking

Thursday, November 29th, 2007

Just about everyone has their computer attached to a network these days. If you don’t have a local network to connect your computer to then you probably still have it connected to the world’s biggest network - the internet.

I don’t claim to be an expert on networking computers together but I have had some experience with networking several computers together on my own network which was made slightly more complicated than most of you are likely to experience due to the large number of different operating systems I have on my various computers.

To share what I havve found out in networking my computers and connecting them to the internet (first via dialup and now via ADSL) I have a selection of pages on setting up a home network, peer to peer processing, servers, and dial-up.

Internet Access Restored

Tuesday, November 13th, 2007

After two weeks without internet access I managed to arrange with the insurance company to obtain a new ADSL modem so as to get my internet connection working again at the end of last week. I have just spent a large part of the weekend attempting to catch up with some of the things that I usually do daily or weekly that I couldn’t do at all while my internet access was down. Fortunately I had been able to borrow access to be able to handle at least some of my email during that period as it would otherwise have taken a lot longer just to read through all the thousands of emails.

It may take another week or two (hopefully not longer) to get the rest of the insurance claim sorted but at least I am able to gradually work through the backlog of tasks.

Electrical Problems

Monday, October 29th, 2007

I have been unable to access the internet over the weekend as a storm on Friday afternoon has destroyed a number of electronic devices inside our house including the ADSL modem. It may take a couple of weeks to get it all sorted out. In the meantime I will attempt to do what updates I can via alternative means.
